Your 2023 Unsung Heroes
After many nominations, Nurture the Next is proud to recognize the following individuals as this year’s Unsung Heroes.
These Unsung Heroes went above and beyond for the children in their lives. These experiences imbued them with important perspectives, so we asked them to share some of those keen insights with us. Here is what they said:
Unsung Hero for East Tennessee
“Teach your children no matter what has happened, they can come to you. No matter how many mistakes they make, you will always be there for them because they matter that much to you.”

“They did not ask for this or to be put through the trauma they have, but it is our responsibility to ensure they are protected and taken care of.”

“Always provide attention, support and love to each and every child in your life. Those are the memories they will cherish the most. Knowing you were there when people closer to them didn’t show up.”

Unsung Heroes serves as a platform to recognize parents who are juggling the current challenges that come with raising children, whether it's the COVID-19 pandemic, crime, increased gas prices, groceries, or anything in between. The courage it takes to be a community leader and the best parent you can be while balancing work, school, and life challenges is not only admirable, but extremely valuable for practicing the six protective factors of parenting. We hope you will help us recognize parents and caregivers who demonstrate incredible resiliency, draw upon a strong support system, understand their children's development, show empathy and support towards their children's feelings, and who are not afraid to ask for help when they need it.
Nominate a co-worker, neighbor, family friend, or anyone who you believe is a hero.
Award winners will be recognized in March 2023.
Please take a moment to think of parents* who have taken that extra step to improve the life of their own family and/or the lives of those around them, and nominate them! All nominations will be reviewed by the Unsung Hero committee, which includes board, staff, and community members. Winners will be announced in February 2023. Use the form above to make a nomination.
*"Parents” is defined as caregivers including, but not limited to, co-parents, single parents, grandparents, and foster or adoptive parents.
